AMAZON ECHO

By:Jum’an

Amazon Echo is essentially a cylindrical, wireless speaker with a built-in voice control assistant from Amazon.com. It listens when you talk to it. More than just a speaker, the Amazon Echo is part voice assistant, part home automation hub. With excellent voice recognition, Echo can hear you from across the room—even while music is playing. The Amazon Echo is essentially a voice-activated personal assistant for your home.

It's a matte black cylinder, 9.25 inches high and 3.27 inches around with a seven-piece microphone array. The lower half of the Amazon Echo is covered in tiny circular perforations, and the top half is entirely unadorned, save for the volume ring, which occupies the uppermost half-inch of the device. The ring twists left or right to control volume, though you can also control that by voice or using the included remote. On the top of it, you can find two buttons: one that turns the microphone off, and a multipurpose Action button.

It’s easy to set up, with instructions outlined very clearly in Amazon's documentation. Plug in the Echo, download the Echo app, and follow the app's instructions from there. The Echo app is available for Android and iOS devices and tablets. You can also connect to the Echo via Bluetooth to use it as a traditional speaker and play any local content on your device. Once you're set up, you can start talking to it.

This device responds to the name "Alexa"; which means that anytime someone says “Alexa” the Echo wakes up. This "wake word" can be changed by the user. The device is capable of voice interaction, music playback, making to-do lists, setting alarms, streaming podcasts, playing audio books, and providing weather, traffic and other real time information. It can also control several smart devices. Amazon has added extensive home automation integration since the Echo's launch, with support for Belkin WeMo, If This Then That (IFTTT), Philips Hue, Samsung SmartThings, and Wink. Hue and WeMo support allows you to control compatible devices around the house with commands like "Alexa, turn on the living room light." The Alexa recognized your voice commands and turned on, off, and dimmed the lights without any problem

There are so many tiny rare things you can do with an Amazon Echo! You can ask how late a nearby pharmacy is open, or where you can get some decent Thai food. And many more! Amazon Echo is versatile, it’s original, it’s weird, it’s useful, and it looks nice on a countertop. It’s your Genuine Home Assistant!
